Organ Project enters final phase

During the week of 14 July, Henry Willis & Sons Organ Builders came to St Barnabas to dismantle and take away the console, case and pipes of the 1970s Nicholson Organ which is now out of service. The case and console are now in the organ builder’s factory to be redesigned and rebuilt for the new organ.

This moves the organ project on to an exciting new phase.

Over the next few months all the pipework from the 1870s Willis instruments in Bargeddie and Bow Common that have been restored since the beginning of the project can start to be brought together with these components to make a working musical instrument. We haven’t yet agreed a target date for installing the new organ as many things need to come together first, but expect to hear more in the autumn about how things are progressing.

We also remain keen for further fundraising ideas or possible donors - through much work and generosity the money to complete the building of the organ is now fully in place, but there will be additional costs around installing and ‘launching’ the new instrument and we’d also like to be sure that we start building up a maintenance fund for the future.

Heartfelt thanks to all who have helped us get to this important moment!
